Our step-by-step approach

01

Initial consultation

We begin with a detailed discussion to understand your project objectives, site challenges and regulatory requirements. This helps us determine the most appropriate investigation scope — whether it’s for planning, design, due diligence or risk assessment.

02

Preliminary Data Review

Before attending site, we undertake a comprehensive review of available background information. This includes historic land use records, geological and hydrogeological data, environmental databases and relevant mining or radon risk information. This early assessment forms the basis of a Phase 1 Desk Study where required and helps ensure that any further investigation is proportionate and targeted.

03

Site Walkover Inspection

A site walkover is carried out by a qualified engineer to visually assess current ground conditions and confirm findings from the desktop review. During this inspection, we consider factors such as surface features, evidence of contamination, drainage conditions, site access and any constraints that may influence investigation methods or development design.

04

Investigation Design

Using the information gathered, we develop a bespoke investigation strategy tailored to the specific requirements of the site and the planning or engineering objectives. This may include geotechnical assessment, contamination evaluation, ground gas or radon risk assessment, and the selection of appropriate intrusive techniques such as rotary drilling or trial pit excavation. Our approach ensures efficient data collection while remaining compliant with relevant guidance and standards.

05

Site Investigation Works

Intrusive ground investigation works are carried out by experienced site teams using appropriate equipment and safe working practices. Depending on the agreed scope, works may involve borehole drilling, trial pit excavation, soil and groundwater sampling or ground gas monitoring. All activities are planned to minimise disruption while delivering reliable and representative data.

06

Laboratory Testing and Interpretation

Samples collected on site are analysed by accredited laboratories to determine soil properties, contamination levels, ground gas concentrations and other relevant parameters. The results are then interpreted by our engineers in the context of the site conditions and proposed development, ensuring that findings are meaningful and actionable.
